Some people in some churches and denominations think and believe that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (refer 1 Corinthians, chapters 12, 13 & 14) are gone. Vanished with the death and departure of the apostles who “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life” (1 John 1:1).
How can this be?
Didn’t the prophet Joel, in chapter 2 of the Spirit’s word in verses 28 – 32, say that “it shall come to pass afterward”? And didn’t the apostle Peter, in Acts chapter 2, refer to this very passage on the day of Pentecost, and ascribe all that was happening that Pentecost morning to the fulfilment of Joel’s prophecy? In fact, the phrase, “it shall come to pass afterward”, as Peter then articulates it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit as “And in the last days” places the happening of Pentecost and subsequent epoch of the birth of the church of Jesus Christ, as in the “last days”, or “afterwards” to use Joel’s words.
My question is, “has the last days”, or “afterwards” come to an end?
Show me in the Scriptures. And then I might believe you that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit have come to an end!
