Reading and Praying through Martin Luther’s Galatian Commentary.
pg 52, “the gospel is a kind of doctrine that is not learned or gotten by any study, diligence, or wisdom of man (earthly, via fallen and sinful human agency), but is Revealed by God Himself, first by the External Written Word in Scripture, and then by the Internal Living Word of Christ empowered by God’s Spirit.” (abridged)
This amazing truth and principle of Revelation can be further cross-referenced by Jesus’s teaching in Matt 16:13 to 23, and especially Jesus’s exchange with Peter, and his confession being attested to by Jesus that that Revelation to Peter of Jesus’s Messiahship and Sonship to God was a gift of revelation indeed.
Jesus goes on to say that it is this “rock”, the inspired verbal confession of faith in Him as Messiah and granted by God Himself is how the church is built by Him, and how even satan’s kingdom, or “the gates of Hades” will not overpower it.
This is a principle which every believer should understand, and internalize, and continue to seek the Father’s grace for continual Revelation of the Holy Spirit from the Written Word, for Christ to be continually revealed to the human heart of the believer. This continuous revelation of the Spirit upon the Word is how “faith comes” (Rom 10:17). It stands to reason therefore that the believer should truly heed and obey God’s exhortations to “meditate” upon Him, and His word contained in Psalm 1, and Joshua 1:8.
This truth resonates with what Jesus taught in the 15th chapter of the gospel of John. It is all about “abiding in Him, His word, and His word abiding in us”. And that is how God is glorified, “when you bear much fruit”.
