It’s been a busy season! By the grace of God, I have been blessed to commence upon my doctoral studies with HELP University. Blessed to have an opportunity to engage in one of my chief delights; learning and acquiring knowledge and insight. To top it all off, this learning is in how to teach and learn. Meaning that my doctoral studies is in education. It’s been thrilling, enjoyable and with its fair share of stress!
And because of this, my sharing on union with Christ was affected adversely. But this morning I felt led to write about 1 Cor 2:11 where the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to say, “knowing the things of a man through, or by the spirit of the man which IS IN him”.
As I meditate and study God’s word in my devotions each morning, I also pray. I pray through the words, the phrases, and the meaning, as the Spirit opens my understanding of His inspired word.
In 1 Cor 2, verse 12 subsequently, the LORD lands such a massive weight of glory through the phrase, “Now we have received, not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we may understand freely the things given us by God“.
The more I meditated and mused upon this verse, the more I was floored! Remember that the preceding verses speaks of God revealing His mysterious wisdom hidden before the commencement of history. And that this wisdom has been revealed, and Paul says, “we speak the wisdom of God among the mature”. And the quality of this wisdom is diametrically opposed to the spirit of the wisdom of the world. For instance, the glory that the world ascribes to the wisdom of such men like Einstein or a Hawking.
No, this wisdom was so glorious and was ordained “for our glory”! And God ordained that His people are to come to a knowledge, awareness, and appreciation of this glorious wisdom, only in Christ. This is obvious from chapter 1 verse 25, “Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God”.
Therefore, God has ordained that Christ, and Christ only, in His union with His people by faith, may have continuous access, through His grace, to this “things of God” made accessible only by the Spirit of God. And this Spirit of God, and not the spirit of the world, have been given freely to us to know God.
Only God by His Spirit as the Spirit reveals in His Word written can establish and keep us established in the grace of God to live continuously in His righteousness which is found only in Christ as the Spirit in us by His power and presence in us generates faith in us, in our hearts to hold onto Christ the Living Word as we meditate, muse, contemplate Christ alone in all His glory as the Spirit reveals Him to our hearts, as we believe in Him by faith, and confess with “great boldness of speech” (2 Cor 4) Christ in His written word.
